K9 woke in her bed, feeling rested and content. She sat up with a yawn, looking around her room. It was clean and tidy, just as it always was. Something about that struck her as being odd, but she shook her head.
Her computer bleeped to life, sending a robot dog rolling her way. Someone had pointed out the physical manifestation option in the computer's system preferences, and she had rooted around until she had found some Genuine Personality boards, canine edition. Somehow, the little dog managed to put her at ease when those nagging thoughts at the back of her head came up. It just felt right.
"Good morning, mistress," the dog greeted her in his stilted, synthesized voice. "Are you getting up?"
K9 yawned. "Good morning, Who," she said blearily. She had no idea how she had chosen the dog's name. Again, it just felt right. "Yes, I'm getting up. Would you like to go for a walk?"
"Affirmative," the little square dog yipped, wagging his tail.
K9 smiled. "Go map out a route while I get dressed," she told the little dog. "Then we can go have breakfast, and go for a walk."
"Affirmative." Who rolled out happily.
K9 smiled, pulling on the white things in her closet. As she pulled them on, something about her right hip nagged her. It felt too light. She shook her head. "I'm ready, Who!" she called. "Breakfast, then walk!"
K9 grabbed something to eat, and munched as they walked around the building. She waved to H390 and M1 as they passed. They seemed to be chatting... She shook her head. She grinned at L146 and N76. They were both nice people. Something about a cup, and a lazer sword popped into her head. She shook her head. She smiled as she passed P354. She didn't know him very well... Something about him, reading a Bible in a sanitizer-smelling room popped into her head. Oh, yes. She shook her head. "Hello, Father Penn," she called. He looked up, and nodded.
Eventually, she made her way back to the lounge, and flipped on the TV, Who sitting by her feet. It was a crime show. Something nagged her at the back of her head. They were doing something wrong. "I'm going to get a headache shaking my head so much," she commented to Who, shaking her head.
"Affirmative," he agreed, nodding.
