Luke sat with his head in his hands, perched on a stool beside Ally's bed in the medical bay. He hadn't managed to say anything else to her before she'd slipped into a state of unconsciousness in his arms. Anna had finished Davis off, making sure that he would never both them again, then they'd rushed Ally back to the Venia as fast as humanly possible. She had lost blood and was in such pain that Luke couldn't even begin to imagine how she'd survived such a beating.
Darcy had been quick in her assessment of the damage, setting the broken bones, getting Ally's bio-signature to register with the computer and making sure that she had enough painkillers flowing through her veins to make any and all pain go away. Now all Luke had to do was wait for her to wake up. He had so much he wanted to say, to just be able to hold her without causing her any more pain, but it would be a while before he could do that.
It was going to be a long and hard wait.

The machine beeped idly with Ally's heart beat. It was slow but steady. No action, or intense thought, just existing. breathing, living. Rather than survive in unconsciousness quietly, her mind was reeling with the images that had plagued her. of davis, of Charlie, and of Luke's face fading into darkness. She had passed oiut before he had spoken or word, before she even had a chance to touch him.
Ally made a small noise through her unescapable nightmares, and furrowed her brow, turning ever so slightly to the left. Her heart monitor skipped a beat and took a vertical leap. Her chest heaved a bit deeper, which only added to the pain of the broken ribs. Why couldn't she wake up? The voices echoed through her darkness. Darcy, whom she didn't know so well, Anna who had checked on her, and ...Luke. He had barely said a thing, not that she remembered, she just remembered hearing his voice. But soon, they all faded and blurred together with her nightmares. Ally turned her head to the right, murmuring a light 'no', before falling into total silence once more.

Ally had been like this for a while now, shifting in her sleep, unsettled by whatever was plaguing her mind - probably the memories of the past day, the horror that Davis had put her through. Even with her eyes closed and her face expressionless, she looked haunted. Luke didn't know... well, he didn't know if she'd wake up. Or if she did, then whether she would ever be whole again after this.
Tracing his fingers across the back of her hand, he reached to enclose it in his, engulfing her soft palm and slender fingers. "Ally," he murmured, speaking for the first time since Anna had departed, "I love you," his voice was gruff and laiden with emotion, he was desperately trying to keep it together, "come back to me, love."
Her face remain unresponsive, and he dipped his head, sniffing in a long breath. "You don't know what life will mean without you here, it won't be anything at all, not to me. I want to be able to see your beautiful, smiling face every day when I wake up. I want to be able to live through that future together that we saw, and make it better. I want to... I want so much.
But, love, for all that to happen, you have to come back to me.
Come back. Please."

Luke's voice was murmured and echoed though her ears. At least he was still there. She desperately wished she could make out his words, but her body was refusing much of her control right now. davis must've popped an eardrum or something. When...if she woke up, she would bring it to Darcy's attention. Forcing a heavy breath, she willed her head to rest center on her pillow.
Waking simply wasn't happening right now, despite her efforts. She was taking in her surrounding by all her other senses, smell, muffled hearing. Sight would come with waking, which wasn't happening just yet. Ally felt Luke gently hold her hand, and she reciprocated the only way she could. Furrowing her brow, she softly squeezed back, just to let him know she was here...sort of. As here as she possibly could be with him. She bottled up all her will, and strength and forced her eyelids open.
She quirked a slow, faint smile as Luke came into view. 'Hey..." she breathed, meeting his gaze. "Missed you..."

There was a long moment where everything in Luke's body eased to a halt, waiting in anticipation, hoping that his words may bring about a mircale. And they did. His heart began pounding in his chest once again as Ally's beautiful grey eyes flickered into life and peered at his face, the smile tugging at her lips causing him to practically beam with relief.
Bringing her hand up to his lips, he kissed her skin gently. "I missed you too," he said, finding his voice, "like you have no idea." Those hours without her had driven him crazy. "We really have to stop making a habit of this," he told her; her getting kidnapped, leaving him frantic with worry. His heart wouldn't be able to take much more drama.

Ally smiled as Luke kissed her hand, but it wasn't where she wanted his lips. Reaching up to cup his cheek, she rubbed his earlobe, staring into his deep gaze. As scared as he was for her, she was equally as terrified she would never wake up again. Her biggest fear would be never seeing his face again. She closed her eyes, making sure she could open them again willingly.
With a soft smile, she slinked her hand against the back of his neck and gently pulled his face into hers. She kissed him as though it were the first and last kiss he would ever know. After she pulled away, she rested her forehead against his and let the slow tears roll. Her face was stitched and bruised and it ached being so close, but she didn't give a flip right now. She was live, and so close to the one she loved more than life itself. Rubbing his cheek with her thumb, she pulled him over a little into the extra space on the bed. He was close, but he wasn't close enough., not when she had been so close to death. "I'm not leaving you anytime soon darling. We've got a family to make, remember." she half chuckled, knowing that was the least of their worries right now. Ally cupped his face once more, kissing his nose gently. "I'm here...."

Ally was hungry for the contact she'd been missing, that much was clear, and Luke was happy to return her kiss with the same amount of passion, having been wanting to kiss her for so long now. But, for fear of injuring her further, he managed to put some distance between them, wiping her tears as tenderly as he could muster with his large thumbs against her delicate face. "Easy there, tiger," he said with a smile, kissing a spot on her forehead which wasn't cut or bruised, "we don't want to wear you out."
Her hand tugged him free of the stool, and he perched on the edge of the bed, supporting himself by planting one of his feet firmly on the floor. He chuckled lightly at her words, "you think I'd forget something like that?" Laying his hands atop of hers, he kissed her lips, "I'm glad," then he tugged away slightly, "but you need to rest, love." Glancing around, he held out a finger to signal that he would be one moment. He clambered up and tapped the computer display causing a screen to appear around the area surrounding her bed, obscuring them from view. Then he shuffled up close to her on the bed, making sure to be near, but to not hurt her in any way - and also to not fall off the bed. "There, that's better."

Ally was glad he was there to take care of her, even if she wasn't used to it. Being taken care of just wasn't something people usually did. The situation had changed slightly, now she had friends, right when she needed them, and for once, she wasn't too proud to admit it. Ally shook her head a little as he got up to turn the screen on around them. Privacy. That made mer smile a little wider.
She had rested, in fact, she had rested too much and now she was awake. All she wanted now was to be with him, to be awake. All shifted a little. the bed was too big for just her anyway. She scooted to one side, which probably wouldn't make Darcy too happy, and pulled him closer. Luke didn't know how close she wanted him. She was still careful of the side where her ribs were broken, but wrapped an arm around him as she face him. "Trust me, I don't need anymore sleep. What I need is you. Talk to me dear. How's Anna?"

Luke was happy to oblige with whatever she wanted, so long as it didn't hurt her. Obviously, she knew how much she could take, but if she wasn't careful, then she'd over exert herself, and it would probably take longer for her to get better. Which wasn't what he wanted. At all. And she probably didn't want to be cooped up in this bed for any longer than she had to either.
"Okay," he agreed, shuffling a little further onto the bed so he didn't have to worry about falling out. Darcy had warned him that Ally would tire quickly, but he'd humour her for now. "Anna's... she's all right. She was pretty wracked with guilt when Ben and I first turned up, but seemed to turn it around. Pretty sure she began to feel better when she sorted Davis out," he said, "he won't be bothering anyone again." He, himself, couldn't imagine shooting anyone in cold blood, no matter what they'd done, but it was the only way to ensure that Davis didn't cause any more trouble, and no one would blame Anna for wanting that. "She was here a little while ago, and she'll be back again. I'd imagine she's with Ben right now."

Ally stroked his arm idly as he talked about Anna. "That's good. It...it's not her fault. I want her to know that. None of it is. Stuff just...happens sometimes. I'm glad she's with Ben. He's a great guy. " she looked up at him, offering a faint smile. "So....he's dead then. Davis. Did you shoot him?"She gave a small sigh, looking away from him for a second as she collected her thoughts. Killing someone didn't seem like something up Luke's alley, but then again, she had never seen him tested to the extreme. He might for his family, most men she knew would, but she wasn't family.
"I...I want to know what he had against me. Why he....why he wanted me dead so bad." Ally looked up with deep, concerned eyes, It probably wasn't the best bedside conversation, but it had been tearing away at her since the attack. She had to know. "But we...we don't have to talk about that. How are you?" Knowing Luke, he was probably a wreck before she came to. She reached up with her question, to touch his face gently, rubing her thumb against his cheek. Every moment she was out, felt like her last, and all she craved now was closeness.

"She knows," he said with a nod, playing with a stray strand of her long dark hair, "Ben's made sure of that." He'd been the one to slap some sense into her back there, Luke was drowning in his own emotions and couldn't be counted on for much at the time. He wasn't trained to keep his head like the other two, not under duress like that anyway. If the ship was plummeting towards the surface of a planet and everyone was depending on him to save them, sure, he could do it, but when the one that he loved was kidnapped and tortured? Who other ball park. "Davis is dead," he confirmed, "but Anna shot him, not me." He couldn't cope with that sort of blood on his hands.
Luke brushed her hair away from her face tenderly as she began to talk about Davis, it was clear that this whole event had effected her deeply, and it was something she would probably never get over. "We can talk about whatever you want," he told her, his Aussie accent mellowing out as he talked softly, his American one coming through instead. "I'm fine," he said - he was now anyway, before? Not so much. "It's you I'm worried about."

"Good." she replied with a short nod of approval. Ben was good to her, if not for her. She hadn't exactly talked to him a ton, but she approved of the guy. Overall, it was a good crew for the ship. Save for a few slime ball guys who still looked at her like a piece of meat, but she had never told Luke, probably never would. Ally reached for his other hand linking her fingers with his as their palms collided.
Davis was dead, finally, but the drama still lingered. She didn't want to think of it. Not now. When Luke's accent broke through she couldn't help but giggle. Apparently her roots were deeper than his, and her accent still hung in full swing. He was still so cute. The passion for him would never leave. "Don't be worried about me. I'm getting better." They needed something better to discuss. "Have you decided what you're doing for Christmas yet?"

A wide smile spread across his face as she giggled, it was a good sign. "I went all Oregon on you there, didn't I?" he smirked, washing out his Australian accent completely to say that sentence. It was a habit he'd formed in school, not wanting to add his Aussie accent to the list of things that people could tease him about. He tended to naturally fade between the two, sometimes it was hard to pin down where he came from.
"Actually," he said, shifting a little, "there was I something I was going to ask you about that before all this happened." He took a breath, making this more suspenseful than it needed to be. "I got a message from my Mom about a Christmas party she's throwing on the 23rd of December. I'm pretty sure they're going to give us shore leave over Christmas, so I was thinking of going. But, I was wondering if ... you wanted to come with me?" It would mean meeting his family, but he had a feeling she wouldn't have any problems with that.

Ally blushed, feeling giddy like she did when they first met. "It's cute." She patted his cheek lovingly and adjusted her back a little on her pillow to face him better. Because she had lived in Australia most of her life, her accent stuck with her and she refused to let it go. Luke was undeniably more American than she was, but nationality didn't really matter. Her heart was his forever.
When she asked about Christmas, Luke tensed up. She herself held her breath, unsure of what was to come. Serious Luke sort of freaked her out at times. When men got in that mode, important subjects followed through. However, the words that followed, made her warm with happiness. She grinned instantly, as wide as her face would allow. "Yes. Of course yes. I'd love to come home with you. I....don't exactly have anywhere to go and you're sort of my family now." She sighed, sucking in her bottom lip. She was suddenly realizing she was talking too much. "Yes..." she repeated calmer this time. "Yes, I would. "

Luke relaxed almost as soon as the word 'yes' left her lips and he kissed her to show how appreciative he was. Really, he needn't have been worried. On the times when he'd talked about his family, she'd seemed very interested and eager to know more. Also, considering the problems she'd had with her own family, it would probably be good for her to be taken into a family environment where she'd be accepted and loved, no questions asked. He loved visiting his family, but having Ally with him would make things even better. "I'll let my Mom know I'm bringing a plus one," he grinned, "she'll be pleased." It was his signal to his Mom that he'd actually found someone worth bringing home.
"Luke."
The sudden voice from behind him surprised him so much that he jumped then wobbled, falling off the edge of the bed onto the floor with a loud crash. Darcy practically had to leap out of the way so that he didn't squash her feet. "What did I say about letting her rest?" Luke looked up from the floor at Darcy with a sheepish grin on his face. "My bad." It had been his idea to lie on the bed after all, even if Ally was the one who wanted him close. He took the hand offered to him and hopped back up onto his feet. "Won't happen again," he promised.
Darcy merely raised an eyebrow at him and shook her head. Turning her attention to Ally, she asked, "how are you feeling?"
