After the whole episode with Davis, Anna had been a little more wound-up than Ben would have liked. She didn't appear to feel too guilty--hell, if someone had been torturing Joel the way Davis had been Alliana, he wouldn't have hesitated to plug the guy--but she did seem to need some help in relaxing properly now that all the drama was over.
And, as her boyfriend, it was only right that he try to come up with a solution to this problem. The best he'd managed to conjure up was something for them to do over the holidays. He'd purchased a couple of tickets for a shuttle to Earth--specifically Victoria, British Columbia in Canada. From there they'd take a ferry to Vancouver, and then they'd be staying with Marie and Joel for the holidays.
This was, of course, assuming she agreed to come. Ben couldn't really see any reason why she wouldn't, but they'd never really discussed Christmas (or any holiday, for that matter) all that much before. And what with them being family events as a general rule, and the way her brothers had treated her on a day-to-day basis, he wasn't all that surprised that she hadn't been too keen on the subject.
Regardless, he decided that, as he had the tickets already, he might as well ask her anyway. But first, he'd have to find her. She wasn't on shift, and after checking a couple of her usual haunts he decided she was probably in her room. Entering the sleeping quarters, he made his way over to her door and rapped his knuckled against it a couple of times.
"It's me, love. You there?"

Whether people believed it or not, until the other day, Anna had never killed anyone. Sure, she'd fought in hand to hand combat and incapacitated people on many an occasion, but putting that bullet through Davis' chest had taken things to a whole new level. She didn't feel guilty, no. Davis was a bastard with connections to one of the Universe's most threatening terrorist groups - if she hadn't shot him then he would have escaped, either from their custody or from prison, then come for Ally again. She had eliminated the problem.
What had disturbed her a little was that she'd just done it - no thought processes occured, no concerns about the repercussions, she'd just killed him in cold blood, then made sure that his body had been disposed of appropriately. It had taken her a little while to get back to a point where she felt like a human and not just a soldier or killer. She couldn't imagine what it was like for people who had to kill on a regular basis - they were either disturbed or had no conscience to speak of.
Ben was her saving grace through this, he was the one who came closest to understanding what she was going through. Even cooped up in her room, he managed to find her. Sitting up, Anna ran a hand through the red mess that was her hair, feeling a couple of knots break beneath her fingers. "The door's open," she called to him, her Scottish voice croaky through lack of use. She had to clear her throat in order to find it again.

A soft call from within the room told Ben the door was unlocked, and so he pushed it open and peered inside. Anna was sitting on her bed, looking a little worse-for-wear. Without a word, he stepped inside, closing the door behind him, and went over to sit on the bed next to her in order to wrap his arms around her. "I didn't wake you or anything, did I?" he asked, planting a kiss on the top of her head.
He pulled back then, keeping one arm around her shoulders, and pulled the tickets--hidden in an envelope--out of his pocket. "I have a proposition for you," he began, slipping said envelope into her hands. "It has to do with the shore leave we're going to be getting over the Christmas holidays. I was thinking, if you didn't have any plans already set, that maybe you'd like to come back to Canada with me? You know, so you can actually meet Marie and Joel and such."

Anna nuzzled in close to Ben's chest as he put those strong, protective arms of his around her. "No, I was awake," she reassured him, playing with the front of his shirt a little, "I was just... well, wallowing really. But, whatever." She shrugged her shoulders - she'd get over what she had done eventually, the way she felt was good if anything, it was deterring her from doing it again. She would be back to busting kneecaps and using her stun phaser in no time.
"Oh?" she said as he began, looking at him curiously as he handed over the envelope. As he explained, she lid a finger under the lip of the envelope and popped it open, looking at the tickets inside. A smile crept onto her face for the first time in days. "Marie said I'd meet her on our next shore leave, do you remember?" she said, thinking back to those weird anomalies on board when she and Ben walked in on their own wedding day. "I'd love to," she told him, sliding her arms around the back of his neck, propping herself up on her knees so she could hug him.
Pulling back a little, she kissed him on the lips, "thank you." It had been a long time since she'd had a 'family' Christmas of sorts, and she had a feeling that a proper Christmas with Ben and his family would be much better than the ones she had at home.
