Goodwin smiled back, stroking Darcy's legs gently as he said: "Well honey, if you haven't heard, I'm big bad Paul Goodwin, maverick of change, the saving power of the new world. I've been around the block a few times." He motioned for one of his men to go to the bar nearby, said man retrieving a drink for Darcy. "On me. For such a wonderful performance...and even better legs. You were born with quite a gift...I bet they would open if we were in a better location." Oh he was quick to the kill alright, but he had had a long day and this girl seemed like she was the type to copulate right on the spot. Too easy. "How about me and you go away from all the lights and have more of an intimate conversation?"
"Hugo?" "Yeah?" "Better watch it ese. Goodwin has pretty good security and he won't drop them off at the local bodyguard nursery so he can make love." "Don't worry about that detail. I got that covered." "How?" "Just set your stuff up, bud. We'll be there soon."

Wow, he was so easy. It was almost pathetic that he was so quick to jump into bed with her. Oh well, she wasn't here to judge, she was the bait. Better do her job. Leaning forward, she walked two fingers up his chest, tugging gently on his tie, she breathed against his lips, "I know the perfect place." Retracting her legs, she kept a hold of his tie as she led him from the bar, aware of the bouncers who moved into stride behind them as they exited the bar. Looking just to the right of Hugo, she saw him set off down the side walk, and made to follow, twisting to walk backwards, suggestively beckoning Goodwin with her finger. "Come on maverick of change, I'm interested to know just how good the saving power of the new world is," she smirked, sticking her tongue between her teeth as she tugged on his hand, leading him after Hugo. Not long now, and this would all be over.

Good girl, just keep on following me.
Hugo could see that Goodwin's meatheads had followed him out of the club. No surprise there. That's why Hugo had a few fun things in store for them once they got to the hotel. As they drew closer to the hotel(Darcy was doing a good job of weaving through the crowd and keeping an eye on him, as well as making sure Goodwin was hooked. He needed to congratulate her on that once they were done.), Hugo commed Jorge, saying: "Ok bud, remember that bug I told you to plant in the elevator?" "Yeah?" "When I give the word, activate it." Jorge chuckled, now figuring out how they were going to neutralize the bodyguards. "You're terrible, homeboy." "Just doing the job right."
As Hugo walked into the hotel lobby, he whispered onto Darcy's comm channel: "Play along. You're my wife, remember?" Hugo did a quick one hundred and eighty degree turn, an expression of disbelief on his face as he watched Goodwin and Darcy approach him. "So what, Senator? You think you can just play around with my girl whenever you think? I don't care if you're a politician! Get your hands off her!" "Ok, ok, pal, relax." Goodwin looked over at Darcy and asked: "You know this chump?" "Yeah she does, she dumped me for that idiot Ash, and now she's onto you! Bigger fish to fry, eh sweetheart?" "Ok, enough of this. Guys, get him out of here." "With pleasure." "OH no, no don't you dare!!!" Hugo allowed the men to drag him out of the hotel, appropriately putting on a show of hostility. They took him outside and instead of dropping him off at the entrance, they decided to take him into a back alley, where they promptly threw the detective against a wall. "Goodwin don't like gettin threats thrown at em, pal." "Neither do I." Hugo drew a small stun blade and in a few quick seconds, both bodyguards were neutralized.
Now for the final act.

Looking back at Goodwin, she rolled her eyes, "some guys, I don't know," she shrugged her shoulders slightly, pulling him towards the elevator. If he wanted it that badly, then he wasn't going to give her up now, was he? To give him a reassurance, as the elevator doors closed, she pulled her body close to his, running her knee up and down his thigh, "you want more?" she grinned mischievously, "follow me." Giggling, she stumbled a little out of the elevator, leading him over to the room. The door wasn't locked, but she made it look like she used her thumb print to open the door behind his back, pushing him inside the room and onto the bed. "You ready for this?" Good thing he didn't know what 'this' really meant.

Goodwin's system was flushed with anticipation, awaiting Linda(or Lindsey or whatever her name was) to shed her clothing. But when he saw her walk to the restroom on their left, he was disappointed. "Oh come on! Get out here honey! I want those le.." "Shut it, hombre." A door right in front of Goodwin burst open and a large Hispanic man walked through the door, grabbing Goodwin off the bed and throwing him into the other room, which had only one chair sitting in the center, said chair where Jorge planted Goodwin, placing energy restraints around the senator's body. Oh this was going to be fun. "Who are you?" The Senator asked calmly, as if he had been through this before. "Don't worry about me, ese. Worry about the guy coming up the elevator." "Why? What's he going to do? Hit me?" "No, Goodwin. I'm going to do worse than that if you don't give me some answers." Hugo appeared in the doorway in his natural state, having taken off his former disguise. He didn't need it in this setting. "Douglass...nice to see you in New York. My boys were supposed to get you here, but I guess you just wanted to show up on your own time." "SHUT IT!" Hugo walked forward and withdrew his stun blade, putting it within a half inch of the senator's face as he said: "You're going to give me answers or so help me I'm going to carve my name into your face." Goodwin was beginning to feel a bit nervous, but he wasn't showing it. He knew how to pull off a fake exterior. "Oh come off it, Douglass. You know you killed those men. They were good people, Douglass." "They were? You call mass genocide 'good', Paul? Or should I call you Kyle?" "How did.." "Kyle Lowry, first class Marine recruit and head of the StarStrikers, an elite unit maintained out in black space. Oh yeah Paulie, I know all about your time in the Rim. I also know that you wanted your old buddies killed in case they squealed." "About what, may I ask?" Oh he was attempting to be confident. Hugo was going to break that soon enough." "Squealed about Yubot, where seven million aliens were slaughtered in a bombing because of 'perceived threat', talked about Alpha Prime, where you and your boys decided to massacre a hoard of civilians because they were on the same planet as a terrorist group you were hunting and they could have been 'brainwashed'. Oh they knew, Paulie, they knew about those crimes. And it made them angry that you got away with it. It made them wriggle inside that you got to play around in million credit cars, sleep around with women and they were cast aside as murderers. And they wanted revenge. So they made a deal, didn't they? They were going to talk to the Alliance, let it alll out. But you couldn't let that happen, could you Paulie? Couldn't let that happen, no sir. So you had them eliminated. And then, who better to take the fall than a detective that already was on the verge of emotional insanity? You calculated, you formulated, and you got your way, Goodwin. Oh you got it alright. And now, you want to finish the job, don't you? Get me, get MY FAMILY OUT OF THE WAY?!" Hugo was ready to stab the man in the throat for making their lives miserable for the last few days, how he had to be separated from Darcy, from Lisa, from Casey. "Oh come off your shtick, Douglass. You know better than I do that those guys were nothings! NOTHINGS! I did them in because they were piecemeal thugs who I decided were not meant for living anymore." "Oh yeah?" "They didn't know jack squat about running a military unit! They didn't know that they needed to eliminate without feeling! That's what soldiers do, that's what they MUST do to accomplish the job. And I DID MY JOB, Douglass, I did it WELL. You ever wonder why the Alliance allowed me back into known space? Because I was their hitman, their dirty little secret that they could keep hidden under the table and when they needed me, drag me right out. I may have killed, but I did MY JOB!!!" "You're really convinced of that, aren't you?" "Without a doubt." "Then take it to black space. You're under arrest. I'm sending this video to the UMC for your war crime trial. See if you can get out of that one." "You think you can get out of this one, Douglass? I'll have every single law enforcement agency on your tail! I'll have.." "Oh shut it." Jorge withdrew a small needle and jabbed it into Goodwin's neck. The Senator's head dropped to his chest. "He'll be out for a day or so, won't he?" Hugo asked with a smirk, Jorge responding: "Grade A sedative. Should be enough time to process and get him shipped out to UMC. Those boys are going to have fun with this." "Sure will." Hugo retrieved a small button shaped object on the ground and placed it inside his pocket. "You sure you want that back-up copy?" "Yeah. Just in case. You know how I am." "Yeah, I do." Jorge blew out a sigh before continuing: "You sure you don't want credit for this one? You did most of the work." "Nah, you deserve it big fella. You turn him in, get the pay raise, do you what you need to." "Alright then, hombre. Got a long night in front of me, then." "Jorge, thank you. Couldn't have done it without you." The men shook hands before Jorge responded with a coy smile, stating: "Latinos know how to roll."
With Jorge taking Goodwin off to the precinct, that left Hugo and Darcy alone...speaking of Darcy... "Darcy? Where did you get off to?" Hugo asked, walking into the adjoining room where she had led him. Not spotting her immediately, the detective took the liberty of walking to the window, watching the night scene of old New York City unfold before him with emotionally drained eyes. He was tired, worn out. He had felt this way back when he would take on caseloads that would have him up for days on end. But the difference this time was he had someone he could come home to, someone who could love him. And he wanted her for the rest of his life, no matter what. They were moving fast, yes, but they did have a few months here to really think about it. They would talk a whole lot more about what they were going to do. But he knew that he wanted a lasting relationship with Darcy more than anything else in the world. He was willing to wait. It was going to be hard though...those legs of hers were mighty fine.
Speaking of legs...
Hugo spotted Darcy in the reflection of the window, the detective turning around. Without saying a word, he walked over to her and embraced her, arms around her waist, pressing her body against his. The moments of silence were almost like a healing. Hugo broke the silence by saying: "You're amazing at being a hooker."
Har har.

Darcy had spent the whole time in the bathroom. It was somewhat soundproofed, and she had decided early on that once her part of this job was done, she didn't want to hear what happened after that; she didn't need to hear them interrogating Goodwin, she'd already had enough for one evening, one week really. Now it was over, it was time to rest. Or more, back to work, but still, that would be a rest in comparison to what had gone on these past few days.
Hearing Hugo say her name, she rose from where she was seated on the edge of the bathtub and went out to see him. She could see in the window the dark rings under his eyes, how tired he was from his posture. This whole debacle had taken a lot out of him. "Hey," she said quietly as he drew her into his arms. She was as tall as him in this heels, if not taller, so she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, burying her head into his neck. She had to draw back and snort as he said she was great at playing a hooker. "Must have been all that practice..." she trailed off and smirked at him, letting him know that she was joking.
Taking the heels off - they were murder on your feet and calves after a while - she slid her hand into his and led him over to the bed. "Seeing as we have the room," she said, her accent coming back to her. She didn't have any hanky panky in mind, just... Curling up on the bed, she drew his arms around her again, closing her eyes. As much as she wanted him, as much as she loved him, this would do for now. Having him close, until they could be closer.

Hugo guided Darcy's head to his chest, one arm still gently wrapped her upper body while the other lay prone on the other side of the bed. He looked up at the ceiling for a moment, his thoughts scattered and spontaneous, like a drifter who wanders from town to town with no set destination. There was one thing clear however: they BOTH needed a vacation from all this mess. "When we leave here, I need to buy you a ring. I don't need other men swooping in to try and take you from me." He chuckled slightly, kissing her head as he continued: "Even through all this, you still want to spend the rest of your life with me." He paused for a moment, then sat up, saying: "This is your last chance hotness. The door is right there. I know you've told me over and over that you want to be with me, that you want to stay. But I think you've seen enough to know that the rest of our life won't be that simple. We're still chasing terrorists halfway through the galaxy, there are rifts all over the place, and then there's the business of going back to L.A to my normal job, where I could get killed." He looked down at the bed for a second before locking eyes with Darcy, telling her: "The door is right there. Last chance for you to call it quits on me and live a normal life with a normal husband, normal family, normal house with a white picket fence." Hugo loved this woman with all of his heart, but he had to give her this option, he had to warn her about the possibility of him not coming home to her.

"Well then," Darcy said, shifting to get up, making it look like she was about to leave before turning back to him with a smile. "Considering all that I've just been through, put up with, and survived, it would be a little ridiculous if I walked out now," she told him, running a hand along his hair line, "I know what the risks are, what I'll be gaining, another daughter, for one." She paused for a moment, "I've spent thirty one years without true love, and now I've found it, I don't plan on losing it again. So, thank you for the offer, but I love you, and I'm staying right here."
Tugging him back down onto the bed, she reached across and placed a long, lingering kiss against his lips. "Besides, who really wants the white picket fence anyway?"

Hugo allowed Darcy to lead him back down to the bed, returning the kiss gently. Chuckling at the statement, Hugo replied: "White picket fences never were my forte. I'm more of a five story mansion kind of a guy." His allusion to his childhood dwelling brought a flurry of questions into his mind about their future life together: where would they live? Would LA take him back? And what about Lisa?
Lisa...
Suddenly, Hugo came up with an idea. It was a bit of a stretch and Darcy may not be willing to go along with it, but he had to mention it. "You know, you mentioned adding another daughter. But you haven't been able to spend time with her or Casey for a decent stretch of time. My parents have a place in San Diego where you guys could spend some time on the beach. Nice weather, pretty secluded area. It would be a good break. I don't think I'll come just because I want you three to have some time to adjust. Maybe you can talk to them about what we're going to do, tell them about our plans for the future. Whatever the case, I think you guys would enjoy it."

All this talk about the future brought Darcy's mind back to Casey, she wondered how her girl was doing staying with Hugo's parents. If she was her usual charming self, she'd probably be getting on with them like a house on fire. If they got back, and Casey wasn't in the kitchen, then she'd be incredibly surprised.
She looked up at Hugo as he suggested the small holiday for the girls to San Diego. The sun, the beach, the surf... it sounded just like what the doctor had ordered. "That's a great idea," she said with a nod and a wide smile, "I love it." Spending time with the girls would be the perfect way to spend the holidays, after all, it was supposed to be spent with family. Eventually, the four of them would get to spend it together, but for now, the girls would suffice. Cuddling closer into him, Darcy felt her eyes droop. Her exhaustion was catching up to her, weighing her eyelids down. Before she knew it, she was fast asleep.

Hugo looked down at Darcy as her eyes closed and smiled, kissing her on her forehead as he whispered: "We have a long road together...but I wouldn't have it any other way. "
-End-
(Sorry, but I wanted to get that in there...XD)
