It seemed no matter which Venia it was, Ollie still had a knack for getting lost in them. Then again, being a civilian- one only on-board for a little while, at that- meant they weren't about to let him fish through their computer files and find a map anywhere. On top of that, they'd basically chucked him through the airlock onto this other ship and expected him to find his way to the conference room. Yeah, right. He could barely find his way to the kitchen on his ship, even after frantic searching. Maybe this whole alternate universe-thing was messing up their brainwaves or something. No common sense.
He kept wandering, receiving many silly grins as he passed, which he tried to return. Obviously, they knew him, which was kind of odd. Being so wrapped up in their work, most of the crew paid him no attention. Well, he wasn't complaining. It was nice to smile instead of being expected to act like a soldier, when he wasn't even close. It was funny, really-- they took him onto their ship, treating him like one of their own, but the distance between real members and his own obtrusive status seemed to be firmly intact.
Finally spotting a large door, he beamed in triumph, and walked through as they slid open. His face fell. This wasn't the conference room; it was the science lab. He was obviously quite a bit off. He'd have to try up on the first floor... Something stopped him, though, and he stuffed his hands in his pockets, looking around. This was actually pretty nice. The science officer on his ship- Zoe- was sweet, but everything was kept pretty standard. This space, however, was chock-full of little touches. A couple jackets hanging around, pictures scattered around the room, and a rather beat-up wooden desk off in the corner.
The antique thing, so out of place, caught his attention. It was an absolute mess, much like his room-- things scattered everywhere, yet somehow looking comfy and natural. A chess set there, stack of books there, teddy bear perched on the lamp, and a long metal cylinder perched precariously beside some small tools. Curious, he wandered over, and picked it up. It was in half at the moment, letting him look at the wires inside. Something seemed to have come loose, though. Peering through the conglomeration of things, he spotted a screwdriver and began to nudge the thing back into place.
