Continued from this thread. They were walking down the corridor towards the mess hall when Anna's stomach rumbled just as loudly as William's had back in engineering. "Wow," she said, looking down at her stomach, "better get some food in there before it starts eating itself."

Will chuckled slightly as he opened the door to the mess hall a bit roughly(the automatic impulse the door USED to have was shorting out...something he probably needed to work on after they ate. The door also stuck at times, hence the rough entrance). He scanned the mess hall, noticing that the rest of the crew wasn't there. "Seriously, where is everyone?" He asked, turning to Annabelle. Usually, there was at least SOMEONE in the mess hall. Will had a sneaking suspicion he was missing something...did he not attend a meeting? What in the world happened?!

"Um, Will?" she said, pointing at the clock on the wall. It was 5am. "I think that explains why there's no one around." He was lucky she was awake to be honest. She'd been a little frustrated at having not much to do since she got on board, and was sleeping badly, so had got up to do some exercise. If she'd been asleep when the sound of his voice had blared down her ear, she would have been majorly cranky. "You really didn't leave engineering the whole time, didn't you?" If she'd done that, she would have been so wound up her head would have been spinning.

Will looked at the clock and wasn't at all surprised that he hadn't left engineering this long: he had been working...unlike some people who he had seen just slacking off on their duties(once again, a tribute to his hard work ethic). He just shrugged, going over to one of the food machines(Anne had once told him there was a time that people actually used to serve food to each other..strange people. Not efficient enough) and mentally projecting what he wanted. Five seconds later... "An English classic." He said under his breathe with a small smile. Anne used to make mincemeat pie like no one could. Anne...
No, he wouldn't think about her here. Especially not with this woman around.
He brought the pie back to a table, sitting down on the cushioned chair. As he sat, the table responded by providing him with a fork and a knife. "Such nice manners, old boy. Remind me to upgrade your hard drive."

Anna shook her head slightly before heading over to the other bio-synthesiser, trying to think of what to eat. In the end she decided on a full English breakfast, seeing as it was morning, and she'd eaten dinner several hours ago. The smell of the sausages and bacon filled her senses and she grinned. "This is going to be good," she said, before heading over to the table. As she sat down, the table did the same for her. "Nifty," she said, before raising an eyebrow at herself, "okay, remind me never to say that again." Then she held up a hand, "not straight away. Wait an hour at least, 'kay?" She knew what people were like, she did that herself to wind people up. She looked across at the pie, "that looks good too," she said, "that bio-synthesiser is amazing." Anything that could make her Mum's old recipes was a Godsend in her books.

"Oh? And why would I want to wait to upgrade such a nice machine? Quite possibly one of the only well-engineered things on this ship." He took a bite out of the pie and was quite impressed...almost as good as the ones back home. Almost. "So what's your story? There's got to be a reason why you're on this ship. You don't look like the other dumb brutes that the UGAP have sent with me as protection."

"I meant wait before reminding me," she said with a snort, chuckling as she began to cut up her food, "there's no way I'd be able to tell you to wait on upgrading something. Would you listen to me?" She raised a brow at him, awaiting a reply. "My story?" she said, "and thank you for the sort of back handed compliment there." She ate a bit of sausage before continuing, "not sure really why they picked me. I must be good at what I do. I don't take crap from people either. And I have an understanding about what's actually going on from studying physics, so, theoretically, I should know what to do in a sticky situation." That was the reason she had come to anyway. "How about you? What makes you top dog in the engineering world?"

"A tactical officer? Physics? I didn't know those two went together. I thought all they trained you people to do was to snap necks and ask questions only after the carnage was over. I'm impressed." He took another bite out of the pie, swallowing before responding to her question: "I know how to fix things and make machines sing. I also know how to create machines. Take for instance that synthesizer. It's made up of three different components that can, if one knows how to, be assembled into a very impressive weapon. Or, a portable heating unit. That chair you're sitting on has electricity running through it that, if redirected, could cause the one seated in said chair to be electrocuted with enough power to throw the one seated back to the nearby wall. Convinced yet?" A little smirk came onto his face, taking another bite of pie.

"Sort of like peanut butter and jelly," she said, "although, that's a bad example as peanut butter..." she made a gagging sound. Nothing against peanuts, she actually liked salted peanuts, but peanut butter was... ugh. And with jam? Ew. Yeah, bad example. "Yes, they train people like that, but whether we take that philosophy on, that's another matter," she said, taking another bite of her meal, a smirk on her face. Anna listened to him speak, continuing to smirk. Oh, he definitely thought a lot of himself. "If I said no, would you continue?" she asked, winding him up, grinning. "Maybe we should give you a new nickname: MacGyver."

"That outdated man? The only way I heard about him was from some antique DVD's I found in my mother's basement. Could you believe people back then used those things? So flimsy! They could break in a moment's notice!" The pie was beginning to cool off, which made Will a bit annoyed. It never tasted very good when it started to cool down. He took two more bites before pushing the pie aside, leaning back in the chair and swallowing. "Have you ever killed a man?" Will had thought about killing some people in his life, but could never actually imagine the act being perpetrated. And this woman, although she was too full of herself, didn't seem like the type to be a killer(at least, that's what he thought tactical officers were).

Anna chuckled. He was so loud about everything, it was fun to watch. "I'm beginning to think that we'll reach the point when there's no need for material things at all. Everything will be completely rendered by computers, maybe even ourselves." She didn't like that thought much. It was interesting, but weird. She shuddered. Raising her eyebrows at him, she cleared her throat, "no," she said, "there's never been a need to." She hadn't been expecting that question at all. "I am authorised to kill though..." for the right reasons of course. "Why did you ask?" she asked, caught completely off guard.

"I figured that in your line of work, you would be bound to come across some person or another who the UGAP wanted killed." For someone who was working for the Alliance, he certainly didn't show his support for them. Granted, they DID give him a very nice position(and nice pay), but he disagreed with a lot of their other more...forceful policies. He almost showed a slight hint of emotion in his eyes when he remembered seeing a colony of peaceful aliens being forced off of their world by UGAP tactical officers...
Idiots. Brute. Force. Idiots.
Except this one was different. He admired different. After all, he himself was different intellectually from most of the people at UGAP.
A small chirping noise began gnawing at his right ear, signaling that they would soon come out of warp speed, which meant that he would have to be down in engineering in case something went wrong during the docking process.
"Well, we're almost arrived. I need to get back to my station." He got up from the chair, which prompted the table to "swallow" the pie and silverware. As Will walked to the exit, he stopped momentarily, his voice somewhat low as he addressed Annabelle: "I ah...enjoyed...our conversation."
He left

Anna shook her head, "we're not assassins," she said, "and I would seriously have to question the order to kill someone anyway, no matter what they've done." Besides, death wasn't the harshest punishment for some of these people. If they had truly done something horrific, then they deserved to rot in prison, not the easy way out.
She opened her mouth to say something when he said that they'd arrived and that he had to leave, but wasn't able to say anything before he stood up and walked across to the exit. She frowned slightly, looking down into her lap. She hadn't expected their conversation to end quite so abruptly.
Then she heard his voice again, and smiled as he left. "Me too."
