History:
Jen was born into a middle class family and naturally grew into a fantastic young woman, winning multiple academic contests in high school for her writing and acting abilities. It was her junior year when she met Michael and the two instantly made a connection that would grow into a full blown romance, the duo marrying secretly after graduating high school to the chagrin of both sets of parents. Two months after their marriage, she realized her stomach was growing and went to see a doctor immediately, who told her she was carrying a child. Both Michael and Jen attempted to keep it as low profile as possible, but eventually both sets of parents found out about the pregnancy and nearly killed the two of them (verbally). As the due date grew nearer, Jen and Michael grew more distant, Michael staying out later than normal and shunning any kind of communication. When Jen went into labor, Michael took her to the hospital and told her he would be back. He never came.
Jen ushered her daughter, Hollie, into the world normally, but the doctors quickly realized that the girl's eyes were deformed. She would be blind for the rest of her life. Not wanting to deal with the possibility of raising a disabled child by herself, she offered the child up for adoption and went off to Boston university for her masters degree in psychology, attempting to put the events of her past behind her.
She was offered a job straight out of college in Albany as a social worker, which she took eagerly and moved to the city, where she would reside for ten years. Jen did fall into a relationship with a man named Keith Kruger, but the duo split off when Jen discovered he was being unfaithful. The woman was content to spend the rest of her days helping others in the sleepy town of Albany until Michael and Hollie showed up.
That changed everything.
