Gordon chuckled at David's comment, raising a glass half filled with scotch(Violet had given it to him without Gordon having to say a word. She must have been a mind reader) in appreciation as he said: "I ain't big into plannin things anyway. Go by the seat of your pants, I always say." He took a drink from his glass right as Izzie asked if they could stick around. The biotic hadn't received any urgent messages from the ship as of yet and he knew that he needed to spend SOME kind of time around the family. Gordon could also see how much Izzie wanted to stay, so, in a very loving future husbandish move, he gave in, telling her: "We need the down time, baby. Go giggle with your sisters. I'll see what I can do to help around here." "Actually dear, I do need someone to cut vegetables for me." "I can do that. Can't be that hard, right?" He nudged Izzie playfully before following Violet to the kitchen, where various vegetables were spread out on one of the two islands. "All of them. Chunks dear, chunks." "I think that's possible." "I hope so. If you don't do it the right way, my soup AND my chicken lose their texture. And I don't want your first impression of my cooking to be a bad one."
Gordon was shooed out of the kitchen after forty minutes of helping, Violet declaring that she needed the whole kitchen to herself. The biotic then resorted to listening to wedding plans, interjecting a comment here and there, but mainly letting the girls do their thing. Another fifteen minutes passed before his comm unit buzzed. "'Cuse me."
He walked to the entrance hall before taking the call: "McFadden." "Gordon, we've got a problem." It was Cap. "What's going on?" "Don't have time to explain now. Just get back on the ship as soon as you can." The transmission ended. Cap sounded worried, which was unlike him. What could have him spooked that bad?

"Ivory, that's the colour for you." "Isn't that essentially white?" "No, no," Mia defended her judgement, "not exactly. You'll see what I mean when I show you. I actually saw a dress in a store uptown the other day that would be perfect for you." "Are you sure you don't mean that it's perfect for you?" David piped up, lounging across one of the sofas while the girls crowded on the floor. "Shut up, Dave. It would dwarf me. On Izzie, however, it will look magnificent." "Can Mia and I wear blue?" "What, like Sapphire blue?" "Oh, what colour is the engagement ring?!" Mia suddenly realised after Sara's comment. Izzie bit her lip, looking around for Gordon who had slipped away. "I don't have one." "Wait, what, seriously?" Even David seemed surprised. "We haven't had time to get one. Besides, it's not like I need one." Now was the time to escape, "I'll be back in a minute."
Clambering onto her feet, she peeked into a room or two before finally finding Gordon standing in the entrance hall, his comm unit in his hand, a frown on his face. "What's the matter?" This couldn't be good.

Gordon was tempted to tell her about the Captain's spooked out request, but thought better of it(He thought! What a miracle!), instead giving her a small smile and telling her: "Don't worry about it. Let's just go have some grub and make sure your family doesn't hate me for skippin out on dinner. 'Sides, you would clock me upside the head if you cooked and I was late." He gave her rear a playful slap before taking her left hand in his right, going back into the living area, which was now vacant. Looks like dinner was already being served...whoops.
Violet's cooking was phenomenal, Gordon eating three plates of food easily(he had to restrict himself from getting another plate so he wouldn't look like TOO much of a pig). While the food was fantastic, Gordon couldn't help but enjoy something even more: a family atmosphere. The entire group was laughing, joking about old times, discussing events in the galaxy...it was something Gordon never had the opportunity to experience. But boy was he trying to make up for all the lost time now. Several times during the conversation he had actually laughed...genuinely. As the dinner wrapped up, Jude asked: "So, when is it? Have you decided on a date yet?" Gordon would have responded rather quickly, but he knew that he wasn't a solo commando anymore: he had a partner. He looked to Izzie, then back to Jude before he responded: "We're ah...we're workin the dates. We'll let ya know when we have the time." "I have a wonderful place out on the Island that you guys could take a look at tomorrow, if you wanted to stay." Stay? Cap had told him to haul tail to the Venia. "Listen, we have t..." "Nonsense darling, you're practically our son now. We have a guest bedroom for you." "Right, but..." "I'll have no objections." Gordon took Izzie's hand and squeezed it gently, signaling for an escape so that the duo could talk things over.

The smile that adorned Izzie's face could not be wiped away. Seeing Gordon enjoying her family's company was brilliant, and not a thing that any of her previous boyfriends, flings, whatever, had managed to do. It could have been something to do with Gordon never really having a family like this before. Her family was happy to take him and let him be a part of their already extensive collection of amazing people.
"Do you remember that year that we tried to take all you kids to Galactic World on the Southern Island of Italy?" Violet suddenly said halfway through the dinner. "No, Mom, we don't remember," Shaun raised his eyebrows and hid his face. "Selective memory loss," David agreed. "It was bedlam. Sara was only four at the time." "Which is why I don't remember," Sara said gratefully. "Each of them wanted to go on a different ride at the same time. Mia pitched a fit when she couldn't go on the cybernetic ponies." "Mom." "You remember that clown?" Jude smirked. David and Izzie both looked at each other and grinned. "Now that I remember." "He didn't know what hit him," Izzie snickered, twirling her fork in her hand. "You still owe me an ice cream, by the way, the both of you." Shaun pointed to the twins. "What? You were the one who refused to retrieve it from down his pants," David said, still proud of himself to this day. "We got thrown out of the park," Mia concluded. "I wonder if we're still banned from the premises," Izzie wondered out loud.
"You guys are so pushy," Izzie chastised them, feeling Gordon squeeze her hand as a signal to escape. "I'm going to go show Gordon your garden, Mom. We'll be back in a bit to help clear up."
Leading Gordon up the stairs and out into the cool night air, she located a bench to sit on between the hydrangeas and the small water feature. "We're safe," she said, taking a breath before saying, "they want you back on board, don't they?"

He plopped down onto the bench before responding: "Yeah. Cap called like he had seen a ghost...told me to get back home quick as lightnin. It's strange, Iz...I've never heard that man so scared before. Like somethin fell apart in his mind." For all of the "brawn, no brain" mentality that Gordon exhibited, it was a surprise to see that he could feel people out so well. But then again, that ability hadn't come out until a few months ago through the many conversations he had with Izzie. "Listen, you gotta stay here. Your folks look like they could use you around the house, have the family together. I'll tell em I have business I gotta take care of, I run off, do my thing, come back and we'll pick up where we left off." He knew that Izzie was either going to be depressed at his leaving...or frustrated. Or both. In order to make sure that he stayed in her good graces, he put an arm around her shoulders, bringing her close as he told her quietly: "You get all this wedding stuff ready...I ain't of much use to ya down here. Once I'm back, we can get hitched. I'm not leavin my bride standin by herself at the altar. I promise you."

That really didn't sound good. And she could only really imagine one thing that would effect the Captain that much, if something happened to his daughter. Izzie was the same when something happened to one of her family. To be honest, the prospect of spending a little time alone with her family wasn't too terrible, she needed it. He wasn't going to get away with it easily, no matter what winning lines he used. "Trying to sweet talk me over," she smirked, tracing a line along his jaw, "fine, you're going to go anyway. I suggest you find a best man. And don't be surprised if the wedding ends up on some mountain top on a faraway planet, us all dressed in kimonos, just 'cause." Taking a breath, she looked at him seriously for a moment, "the next time we meet, we'll be so close to stepping down the aisle." Gods, that was weird to think. This wedding was going to have to come together super fast. Stroking his cheek with her thumb, she said, "I love you." Every time she said it, it was like it was even more true.

"Thought you would never say that when I first met you." He said with a laugh, knowing the truth of that statement. Gordon knew that he had ticked her off pretty good when they first met(she had said as much), but that was the nature of their relationship early on: extreme passion or extreme anger. Too much of that wasn't healthy and Gordon knew that from their early time together(again, the dumbbell incident). He leaned in for another kiss before he hesitated, saying with a smirk: "Nah. Next time I kiss these lips, you're gonna be a Mcfadden. Now come on, I gotta tell your parents I'm leavin."
Gordon walked over to Judah, who was sitting on one of the large couches in the living area and told him: "I gotta run, Jude." "So soon? Thought you would stick around." "Business came up back on the ship." "Oh? What kind?" "It wasn't specified. Cap just told me to haul myself over there on the double. Listen, I'll be back within the week." "Be careful out there." "I'll try."
Gordon said his goodbyes to the rest to the family before going to the entrance hall, having led Izzie by the hand to the hall as well. He summoned the elevator before he wrapped Izzie in his arms, telling her: "I will be back." He gave her a kiss on the head before continuing: "I will. No. Matter. What." Gordon stepped onto the elevator, giving Izzie a wink before the doors shut.
It was going to be a long trip home.
