An alarm buzzed. Kate grumbled, and rolled over in her nest of blankets and pillows. An arm emerged, and came crashing down on an alarm clock. The buzzing continued. I really need to get separate buzzers for all my stuff, she thought grumpily as she untangled herself from her cocoon, blinking blearily. She fumbled for the annoying sound, and her hand eventually came to a rest on her buzzing phone. She picked it up, pressed the talk button, and grunted a greeting. "A rip opened up 02 minutes ago," a grounded voice informed her. It was her superior in the task force. "We need your squad down there to evacuate the area. The Venia will be here shortly to assist you." The line clicked. Katy grumbled, and got to her feet, swaying. Nate had better have some coffee she could share when she got here. She slipped on something vaguely regulation and a jacket, grabbed her phone and her Enfield, and sprinted out the door. She watched the news as she rode down the elevator to her apartment's ground floor. The rip had swallowed a section of traffic, and ripped a few buildings off their foundations. Looks like she was taking the subway today. By the time she had gotten to the subway, the rip had apparently closed up, and emergency crews were there. So, she swiped her pass, and hopped on the train to the off-planet docking bay. She arrived, and sat on a bench in front of Docking Bay 5. Her jacket was a little warm, so she slipped it off and tucked it under her head to make a neat little pillow, and closed her eyes. She was just about to nod off when a rush of air, most likely from the Venia's engines, rushed across her face. She opened her eyes, and confirmed her suspicion. Time to get to work.

Natalie awoke to a voice blaring over the intercom, barking orders and saying that they'd be docking on Delta Prime shortly. She blinked blearily and shook her head, staggering to her feet and scrabbling in search of clothes. She threw on random articles of clothing, accidentally pulling her shirt on backwards and having twist it around before snatching her jacket and tugging her boots on.
Before she left her room she tucked her phaser-gun in the back of her jeans so that it was hidden by her jacket. It wasn't like she'd need it, but it was better to be safe than sorry. She then made for the mess hall, intending to get something to eat before they landed. Whether or not they'd want an engineer with them on the ground team was debatable, but all the same she needed to be ready, and being fed was a start.
It was then that she registered that they would be on Delta Prime. Her friend from school, Katy, was stationed there as one of the Venia's liaisons. Natalie smiled slightly, knwoing that Kat would probably be irked at being waked so early, and decided to pick up a thermas of some caffeinated beverage to bring for her. In the end, she'd downed a couple slices of toast and gotten ahold of a thermas of tea by the time the Venia landed.
Natalie still wasn't entirely sure that she was wanted on the ground team, but didn't care enough to check. If nothing else she would say hi to Katy, give her the tea and then get back on the ship. When the Venia docked, she made her way out onto the docking bay. Already a group of her crew mates were gathered just a little ways off. Spotting Katherine's familiar brunette head, she made her way over to her.
"Hey Katy!" she said warmly, smiling. Katherine was one of her only real friends outside of her family, and it was good to see her again. "I brought you some tea. I hope the flavour's all right. It might be a little weak, I couldn't steep it for very long." After handing the thermas to her friend, she asked, "So what exactly happened here? I didn't catch the details."

Katy grinned as Natalie walked over with a thermas in hand, handing the thermas to her. As Nate chattered on, she opened the lid and took a whiff. Vintage tea, not too strong. "This is perfect," she insisted, downing some. "Yeah, anyways, rift opened up downtown, took out a whole block. I don't really know much except for what's on the news. They've got crews down there cleaning up, but we still don't know what caused it yet. You space chums feel like tagging along?" She held the thermos out, in case Nate wanted some. "We'll have to take the subway, they've got the roads blocked off," she mused. Glancing at the assembling crew, equipment in hand, she snorted amicably. "Good luck trying to blend in."

Idina woke with a start at the sound of someone speaking over the loud speaker. Of course in the end she couldn't be sure if it was a automatic recording or an actually person but never the less it sent her mind into quite a state of near panic. She sate up straight right away listening to the words. They would be landing on delta prime. She felt her stomach churn. She had just gotten used to the fact that they were in space! She wasn't sure if she could take anything more. Of course she had known that they were getting close to stopping at the way-station there whether there was a problem or not for a fill up. But Idina hadn't had much time to soak in the fact that they would be landing on an alien planet, even if it was one that was inhabited by humans. This would the first planet she stepped foot on other than Earth. And now all of a sudden they were only minutes away from landing.
She half jumped out of bed and was dressed in a time that wasn't even humanly possible. She wasn't thinking. Couldn't think. She didn't even have time to think of random facts to keep her calm. No the Russian team had turned on her auto-polite and as just going through the motions. When she was dressed and ready she left her room and found her way to the flight desk. She didn't even think about stopping by the cafeteria to grab a bit to eat. She was to nervous to eat anything anyway. What she did need was to know what was going on. And if anything she figured that Anna would be on the flight deck, and she needed to be around someone she liked, like Anna, right now to keep her calm. When she got there she found herself a corner and just stood there, not saying a word, most likely looking like a deer in head lights and watched the crew that was there. Here she learned that they just weren't landing, but there had been a flux in the rift and they had to investigate a block of high way that disappeared.
When they landed Idina clocked the stuff that she would be needing, which happened to simply be a notepad and pen. Everything else she needed she had memorized even before boarding the Venia. Then she followed a few crew members off the ship and again found herself a corner where she just stood looking around. This place seemed much the same as Earth, and in might even be possible to forget that she was on an alien planet. Though at the moment there was no way Idina was about to forget that. Taking a deep breath she tried not to look so out of place, but knew that she had failed. "It impossible to lick you elbow." She muttered under her breath trying to calm herself, her eyes landing on Nate who was talking to a girl that she didn't know, a local it appeared.

Katy narrowed her eyes. Why did she feel so weird all of a sudden? She glanced around, and caught the eye of a girl, a little younger than her, who looked slightly out of place. Katy waved at her. Maybe she'd come over and say hi. She was probably with the Venia crew. No, definitely-- why else would someone from so far off, or at least far enough to not know her way around, be standing around here? Young genius, probably. Fun people. Maybe Nate would know who she was...

Natalie took the thermas from Katy and took a sip of the tea. Kat was right, it was pretty good. She held it out for Katherine to take back, but she wasn't paying attention, looking past Natalie at something else. Natalie turned as Katherine waved at someone and spotted Idina looking over at them. She smiled at the younger girl and beckonned her over.
"Hey," she greeted kindly. "Idina, this is Katherine Tyler. Her and I are friends from school, and she's one of the Venia's contacts here on Delta Prime. Katy, this is Idina Petrov. She's the youngest person on the Venia's crew, which should tell you in itself just how amazing she is at her job."
Natalie smiled briefly before looking down at the thermas that was still in her hand. Kat didn't seem to want any more at the moment, and so she considered offering her crew mate some. Shrugging internally, and decided she might as well and held the tea out to Idina. If Idina was as tired as she was, then she might need a little bit of a perking-up.
"Want some?" she asked. With a quiet laugh she added, "I didn't poison it or anything, promise."

Katy smiled amicably at Idina. "Good to meet you," she insisted. "Always better to have people with interesting names than without, right?" If her geography classes served her right, which they usually did, Katy guessed Idina was from somewhere in central Europe... Russia? Ukraine? Transylvania? Something like that. Close enough. "Anyways, what are you doing on the Venia that you so excel in? Most I could do when I was a teen was a cartwheel, and only one-- never two in a row or anything. You do cartwheels?"
