It’s been over a month since the incident on the Oceanic, and the crew are making progress on discovering the causes of these rifts and anomalies.
After a mass tactical movement by the terrorist group R4, it is clear that they are affiliated with these rifts and anomalies – whether they are the sole cause has yet to be discovered.
Penn Gwyther and Benjamin Braun have requested to investigate the rifts further, taking one of the shuttles back to Proxy 5 so that they can start with the scene of the first attack.

Penn sank back into the co-pilot seat of the pod, tapping his feet absent-mindedly on the floor. Six hours hadn't sounded so long in the boardroom, but sure added up to the full 360 minutes in this cramped space. Ben was piloting the ship to give him something to do, which required headphones, of all things. An ancient piece of equipment, but it still worked like a charm to prevent starting casual conversations. Well, he'd just have to talk to himself then. He cast his thoughts back to the mess that had gotten him in this pod in the first place. After the Oceanic fiasco, Penn had worked day and night, alongside the rest of the medical crew, to patch up pretty much everyone. Ben had been the last person there, so Penn had offered to get him straightened up, and let the others get some rest. Ben had a few cracked up ribs, something Penn could identify with, so he got them straightened up nicely, then gone to enter the information in the computer. The thing still hated him-- it had refused to type in his code properly, and instead called up some obscure gibberish. Ben, being the closest one to a spy in the room, quickly deduced it was a code for something. They had spent most of the night trying to work out, but close to the morning, they had a break-through-- it was technical schematics, presumably for anti-matter. Shocked, they had brought it to Ben's superior, Annabelle. Anti-matter was pretty tricky stuff-- although it's existence had been proved decades ago, it was an unstable material to work with. Apparently, these schematics spelled out a stabilizing device to not only make it safely, but to harness the energy. The techies had traced the source to a known headquarters of a suspected terrorists, so, as the initial people to find the information, they got to go hunt it down. Fun. Penn reached for a knob in front of him, twisting it experimentally. Nothing. He thought someone would have capitalized on the idea of inter-planetary radio stations by now, but apparently not. Maybe he would patent it when he got back, or something. He sighed. His soccer ball was back in the medical bay, stashed away in a secluded cupboard, and so left him with nothing to do. He turned his headphones, deciding if he was this bored, Ben must be at least somewhere close. "I'd ask if we were there yet, but that would be a little bit useless," he observed.

Ben had never actually studied the art of piloting, but he'd spent enough time on space-frigates to know his general way around the consoles. He wasn't great, but he could at least keep a ship in the air and land it without too much hassle. That didn't mean it was his most favourite pass-time. Spending a quarter of the day piloting a small ship down onto the surface of Proxy 5 wasn't exactly what he'd been expecting.
Not like it wasn't necessary. After the terrorist attack, he'd made his way to the medical bay to have his ribs repaired, and had found himself one of the last of the crew to come up. Penn had just been about to enter the information into the computers, only to pull up something that, clearly, was not Ben's files. Curious, Ben had come over to see exactly what it was Penn had found.
Together they deduced that it was some sort of code to something. Something that had to do with anti-matter.
Instantly Ben had suggested they take it to Annabelle and show her, and Penn had instantly agreed. After showing the information to her, the science officers had studied it for a time, trying to decipher what little they could. It appeared to be codes on how to make anti-matter safely--the first huge shock. Anti-matter was a pretty hard-core substance, and extremely unstable. The second shock was that the codes contained ways to harness the matter's power.
Ben jumped a little when his headphone's clicked on, and Penn's voice crackled over the line. He chuckled at his friend's statement. "Only a little," he mused, smirking. Then, more seriously he added, "Don't worry. We're only an hour or so out now." After a slight pause, he added, "So what are we planning to do here, Penn? Don't get me wrong, I know why we're here, but what's our plan of action exactly?"

Penn breathed a sigh of relief at the time check. "Thank creators, my legs are starting to fall asleep," he commented, stretching a little. Being cooped up was never one of his best skills. One of his worst, to be exact, but his brain was a little mushy at the moment to do exact calculations. He shrugged. "I really have no idea, to be honest," he admitted. "We know where the plans originated from, but the actual reactor might not be there. The techies said you'd need roughly the size of a football field to fit the reactor alone, so that's our biggest lead. We need to find out who drew up those plans, and where they're instigating them." He frowned, and sat back in his seat, drumming his fingers on the dash. "We're a Taffy med student and a gun-happy Canuck. Unless we decided to go all-out James Bond on this, we haven't got much going for us." He grinned. "You know, I think that was the start of an idea... Feel like some M16-style spying, mate?"
