Kiri perked up when Ollie came up with a plate of food that smelled simply indescribable. It was food. Real, proper food. Not some reconstituted mash that was once food but now bears little to no resemblance to anything edible, despite whatever its nutritional content might be. Her stomach gave an embarrassing little grumble, and she laughed, leaning forward to better look over the impressive platter of food Ollie offered.
The shrimp looked good, as did the assortment of fried and grilled fish, but Kiri's wandering fingers went right for the scallop shish kebab, the tender white invertebrates skewered between chunks of zucchini and tomato, all striped with perfect black grill marks. "Ollie... I think I love you a little right now," she said with a laugh, before tugging off a scallop and tossing it in her mouth with a happy sigh, eyes closing at the perfectly spiced flavor.

Ollie chuckled, cracking open a crab leg expertly. They were his favorite-- whenever his dad reeled in a catch and brought it home, part of it would be in Ollie's adolescent stomach before it could hit the floor. He leaned back in the sun-warmed sand, letting the sand adhere to his back. "I love me too," he told Kiri. "What about you, Anna? Do I get any more love?" He waited for a response, and after getting none, looked over. She had fallen asleep on her towel, a happy smile on her face.
"Oh, look," Ollie observed. "An easy sleeper. Just what we need in a tactical officer." He waved some of the more marinated fish under her nose, hoping the bundle of spices would revive her. No such luck. He popped the fish in his mouth instead, the smile now permanently affixed to his face. "So, you're in the medical section, right?" he asked Kiri. "Or am I confusing you with someone else I don't know?"

Kiri glanced over at Anna too, stifling a laugh. Honestly, she was surprised she hadn't crashed like that yet, what with the sudden release from the almost perpetually stressful atmosphere on board the ship. Then again, the divine smell of the food Oliver had brought could probably have woken her from even the deepest sleep. She polished off the skewer and reached for one of the fried coconut shrimp, one of her favorites from back home.
"Yup, I'm in medical. Viruses and immunology are my specialties, but we all kinda multitask over there. Have to, what with all the chaos we seem to run in to." She took a contemplative bite of the shrimp and sighed, then quickly shook her head and grinned crookedly. "But no depressing talk. How about you? Science, right?"

Ollie nodded, taking a lobster morsel this time, with a buttery glaze on it. "Yup. I'm the geek on board, playing with my interwebs while you get real stuff done," he quipped. His job wasn't as bad as some of the others on board-- while they were running around, guns ablaze, he got the sturdy little office job. Guy in the van, so to speak. Except for the van was in space.
He chewed over his food contemplatively. "You guys sure are kept busy," he chuckled. "Seems like we're a magnet for trouble, running into gunfights and black holes in the middle of downtown. I thought we'd at least get, say, a break-in week before they threw us into the big stuff. Wishful thinking, I guess." He tried some of the shrimp Kiri was awing over. "Crunchy," he muttered, rolling it over his tongue.

Anna's eyes snapped open, had she just fallen asleep? She could hear Ollie and Kiri still talking - damn, she'd fallen asleep in the middle of the conversation. It was like one taste of the food had finished her off. She hadn't even realised how tired she was till it was too late - these couple of months had taken a lot out of her. Usually it was mission, break, mission, mundane stuff, mission, break etc. This was like a none stop tilt-o-whirl of drama and action.
Stretching and yawning, trying to act innocent and coy about the fact that she had fallen asleep, she looked round at the two to see there was still food available. "Food, my precious," she said, reaching her hand out towards it, wiggling her fingers with a cute smile.
