Tayze had been working soildly for a good few hours, Her complete concentration on the machine she had been fixing and recallabrating. "Seriously. . . " She muttered, an annoyed look quick to cross her features. Her straight bright orange hair was tied back in a messy pony tail, her fringe however was still hanging in her face. She brushed it briskly out of her face and sighed, looking at the jumble of wires, boards and fixtures infront of her. "Why arent you working?" She spoke to the machine, although it was highly unlikely that she was going to get a responce.
Tayze took a deep breath, closing her eyes and exhailing slowly, mulling over the machines more complex properties, trying to figure out where she went wrong and why it wasnt working how it was supposed to. She opened her eyes, chewing on her lip absent mindely. She leant forward again, and began to tinker inside of the console. Apparently the machine didnt like what she was doing and sparked at her, giving her a shock. "God damn!! Son of a bi-" She didnt finish her sentance, insted began grumbeling under her breath and massaging her hand where she had been shocked. She sat back again on the floor looking at the console with a very unamused look.

Katy heard shouting, and poked her head into the engineering room. She was out wandering around, like she normally did. It wasn't like they had assigned her a particular job or anything-- she was supposed to be back on Delta Prime, after all. Still, if she had to be stuck anywhere, this was the place to be. She had only been slightly bored during her stay.
She glanced around. There was a fiery red-head, her hair closer to orange than an actual red, nursing a sore hand, a machine dismantled in front of her. Hmm. She hadn't met this engineer yet. Maybe she should go make friendly.
Stuffing her hands in her pockets, she wandered over, scuffing her loafers along the not-so-pristine floor. "Having some troubles?" she asked casually. "Then again, so does everyone on this bucket of bolts-- anything metal here has a mind of it's own."

Tayze jumped when she heard Katy's voice. She hadnt been expecting to grab anyone attention, after all last she had checked she was the only one within a good few rooms radius. Had she really been that loud? It wasnt very often that Tayze interacted with other crew members, which would explain how Katy did not know her as of yet. "Damn thing just sparked at me" Tayze responded with a small nod.
She stopped nursing at her hand and stood up to face Katy properly. She felt a mixture of being rude and vulnrable being on her knee's with her back to someone. "You know anything about these pieces of cr-" She cut herself off, swearing wasnt going to get her anywhere, especially with first impressions an' all. "- machines?" Although now her sentance made no sense it got the point across. She raised an eyebrow, not sure what job the other girl had on the Venia.
"I'm Tayze by the way" Tayze finally realized that she hadnt introduced herself. Dispite being slightly antisocial, She had been brought up well and didnt like being rude -as such. She wasnt sure wether or not to extend her hand for the other girl to shake. Back in Australia it was general courtosy, but there were people from all over the world on this ship. She wiped the dirt and grease off her hand and extended it towards Katy, still hesitant but felt that she had too either way.

Katy winced. glancing at Tayze's hand. "Ow," she sympathized. "It really isn't being nice today. Usually, the engineers just get things dropped on their heads. Oh, yeah, watch for falling objects." From what she had heard from Nate, and Will, by that extension, the engineering room was something of a playground for psychotic serial killers. Not somewhere where she would enjoy working. The people who did were certainly brave in her books.
She grinned as Tayze managed to cut off her sentence. "Don't worry, sentences are rarely clean when they refer to these machines," she insisted. "And no, I don't know much other than they make horrible food." Bio-synthesizers had gotten a bad rap in the few months she was here.
"I'm Katy," she told her, taking the offered hand. Nothing like a good handshake to get to know someone. "Good to meet ya, Tayze! A ship can never have too many people working on it. Ours'll be getting spoiled." Nate and Will did enjoy their late nights working down here- for more reasons than one might think- but hey, the more the better. Plus, she seemed like a nice person.

Tayze shrugged at her hand, she'd injured herself worse in the past. Almost losing fingers, ending up with stitches and what not. She chuckled at the horrible food comment. "Right back 'atcha mate. I've been avoiding trying the food to be honest, sticking to the protein bars and energy drinks for as long as possible" Tayze admitted with a small grin. She never particularly had much of an appetite anyway. "And the falling objects, I learnt that the hard way the other day. Son-of-a-bitch dropped a sheet of metal on my head" She said rubbing the still slightly tender spot on the base of her skull. She had been fairly lucky, The ship hadn't been too cruel too her, as of yet.
"So, whats your job around here?" Tayze asked, making general conversation as she nursed her hand. She was more than happy for a distraction from the machine, excuses weren't her forte, but atleast it was a temporary fix to the dilemma, ignorance was often bliss.

((No problem!))
Katy chuckled. "Well, we just got a new chef-- the other engineers installed a kitchen for him and everything. His pasta is heavenly." She'd become a bit of a food tester, grabbing a little of whatever he'd made specially that day. She hadn't been disappointed yet. "It's a million times improved from the food-machine-things; whatever you call them."
Shaking her head, she glanced up at the structure. "I don't know how we manage to keep running," she admitted. "Whenever there's a blip, I always think it's finally crashed for good." Being on solid ground was more to her taste.
"Well," she started, "I'm actually not supposed to be here, in a sense. I'm a liaison, so I'm actually supposed to be back on Delta Prime. Some really weird stuff happened, though, and I got stuck. So, I'm basically just the Odd Job Squad." She struck a pose. "Got any odd jobs in dire need of doing?"
