History: Natalie was born and raised just outside of Duluth, Minnesota, on April 7, 2438. She grew up with her mother and father in the family saloon, often helping her mother out by serving as a waitress or working the bar. But it became apparent at a young age that her true passion was, just as her father before her, mechanics. From the first time he brought her out back to his garage, she’d been almost addicted to the place. By the age of sixteen, she’d grown into an outright grease monkey--she even got a tattoo as a symbol of rebellion against the girly-girl things her mother kept hoping she’d take a shine to.
In the end, she attended a high-end engineering school in Carlton, graduating as one of the top students in her year. It wasn’t even twenty four hours after she’d gotten her degree that UGAP found her, tapping on her shoulder and asking her to take up a position on their new ship, the Venia. They explained that they needed the best and the brightest for a top-priority mission, and, being naïve, she instantly agreed to go. Time seemed to fly by, and before she knew it the crew had become like family to her.

Natalie sighed heavily, burrowing herself deeper into her pillows. It had been a long day, and there was nothing she wanted more than to curl up and sleep for a month; maybe even longer than that. And yet sleep kept evading her, slipping just beyond her grasp.
She spared a glance at the digital clock on the night-stand next to her and frowned at it. It was 11:42pm, according to the glowing red numbers. Thinking back, she'd gone to bed and shut off the lights around 9:30. She'd simply been sitting here for over two hours.
How much longer was she going to have to wait before sleep claimed her? It wasn't like she wanted to lie there, staring at the ceiling blankly all night. And yet she was unable to do anything else. With an inaudible groan she realized it was probably jet-lag.
Next time I agree to take my work into outter-space, I really need to reconsider, she thought morosely, rolling over and tugging her blankets up around her neck.
