Personality:
Before her adopted parents' death when she was 10, she was a shy girl who hardly said two words. After their death, she was forced into foster care and developed an attitude; she'd been abandoned twice by now and had issues from that. She became quite the troublemaker, despite her blindness, enlisting help from the other kids. She did eventually settle down, especially when she started karate and other combat sports, that was a way for her to learn to control her frustrations. She is quick to anger, if you piss her off, and she can be confident and flirty, like she's not blind at all.
Deep down inside though, there is still that vulnerable child who has been hurt one too many times. She tries not to let her emotions show, and often doesn't get close to people for fear of them leaving her too.

History:
Hollie was born in Colorado, to her single mother, a woman on the verge of insanity after her long term partner disappeared. Her mother abandoned her at the hospital when she found out that Hollie was blind, leaving her with no family and nowhere to go. One of the nurses at the hospital, who couldn't have children of her own, adopted her with her husband and treated her like she was their own child.
When she was ten her adopted parents were murdered in their own home by a petty thief; the only reason Hollie was left alive was because she'd heard the man break in and hid in the closet so he couldn't find her. She'd heard the screams of her parents but had been too scared to do anything. The police had found her huddled up in the closet shaking like a leaf.
Now having been abandoned twice by her parents, and being in and out of foster care, she started having issues with controlling her emotions, acting out, getting easily angry and frustrated. She started karate lessons, something to help her take out her frustrations productively. This helped her with her determination to heighten her other senses as much as possible, so that she could move around with as little help as possible.
Now that she had her emotions under control she began to focus more on her school work, doing well in her classes despite her 'disability', eventually graduating near the top of her class in Computer Sciences - technology these days was very accommodating to those that were blind, and she could use it expertly by the time she was done with school.
The UGAP heard about her talents with computers, and despite her blindness, chose to recruit her for the mission. They needed someone to take the work load off the other Engineers as far as computers were concerned, and she accepted, deciding this could be the first step to something bigger.
After a year and a half of madness on board the ship, with her biological father by her side, she had the operation to restore her sight.
