Okay, I'm putting in a request for a character!
When John was 22, he met his partner in crime, Terry Hauser. I've written a bit of backstory on how they met over here.
My idea is that she didn't die. A couple of months before her supposed death, she was caught by the government. They offered her immunity if she helped them put John behind bars. That was also on the condition that she left her life of crime behind. And she accepted.
Or, that she was a government all the long, and spent two years building up his trust so that they could bring him in. He'd definitely lose his trust in the government that way too.
It would completely screw John over if she turned up somewhere and was like "Hey, missed me?" xD

OK, figured out why she gave him up xD
Terry found out that she was pregnant, and, worried for the baby's well being, she turned John in, in order to get full immunity and bring the child up herself. |
