Name: Tobias Reed
Nickname: Toby
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Flexible. VERY flexible.
Age/Birthday: 29, April 18th
Race: Human
Place of Birth/Home Town: Metropolis, Delta Prime
Character Portrayal: David Tennant
Hair: Medium length, just barely to his ears, but permanently messy and usually gelled to keep it that way.
Eyes: Intensely brown
Height: Slightly over six feet.
Individual Features: A distinctive crooked smile and some odd mannerisms. A neat, straight scar on his abdomen from a childhood surgery.
General Appearance:
Family: A very large family, both immediate and extended. He's the fifth of eight children, and both his parents had a number of siblings. He's an uncle six times over, and has more cousins than he can keep track of. While he maintains a generally positive relationship with them, he's made a concerted effort to distance himself from them to become his own person.
Friends: Many, but none on the Venia - yet.
Enemies: Also many, thanks to his, well... habits. None on the Venia - yet.
Job: Co-pilot
Personality: Tobias is friendly to a fault, deliberately and effusively charming, and delights in surprising people. He is comfortable in just about any social situation, somehow managing to either find a niche, or forcibly create his own. At some point, he made a decision that he hated the first few awkward moments of getting to know people, so tends to skip right past them - often to the dismay of the person he's speaking to.
Tobias has a peculiar viewpoint when it comes to relationships. While he will eagerly and gladly sleep with anyone who gives him half a chance, he will just as quickly brush off any attempts at romance or true emotional connection. He doesn't mind getting close to people as friends, but views romantic interaction as an illusory waste of time. Physical intimacy is fun, recreational even. Emotional intimacy doesn't really exist.
Friends, on the other hand, are extraordinarily valuable to him. Once he has decided he likes someone - even if his advances are rebuffed - good luck getting rid of him. He prides himself on being a good listener and confidante, and will keep a secret to his deathbed. While he can tend towards the obnoxious, even nosy, his heart is almost always in the right place. Threaten one of his friends, though, and his darker side will come out - a side he does his best to keep hidden.
Likes:
Sex - with anyone, ever, at all.
Meeting new people
Food - and yet he never seems to be anything but painfully skinny.
Dislikes:
Romance - nonsense, really.
Judgmental people
Prudes
Fears:
Having his heart broken - again
Being totally, completely alone
History:
Growing up in a large, loving family, Tobias learned early on how to be comfortable in a group. He also learned how to stand out, if only by misbehaving. It was often the only way to get his parents to pay attention to him. He was lucky enough to grow out of the troublemaker stage pretty quickly, thanks to his parents rewarding good behavior and success with much more attention than acting out. With a natural aptitude for navigational math and flying, it was an easy choice for him to choose flight school after graduating high school.
It was at flight school that he met her. Lillian Wolf. Drop dead gorgeous, blonde, a body to die for, and a smile to charm the hardest heart. He fell for her head over heels, and miraculously she returned his affections. They dated for the entire three years they were in school together, and when he proposed to her a month before graduation, she accepted. They planned their wedding, and he couldn't imagine ever being happier. When the big day came, everything went smoothly up until the wedding itself was to begin. He stood by the altar with the priest, decked out to the nines in a tailored tux, waiting for that first, breathtaking glimpse of his beautiful bride. It never came.
He later found out that she had booked a flight off-planet for that very day months ago. For the last year of their relationship, she had been sleeping with another man, someone he'd never even met. She had willfully gone through with the wedding plans, knowing she had no intent of actually marrying him.
Needless to say, he was devastated. He swore off romance entirely. Thanks to the support of his friends, he managed to survive the emotional torment and come through it a better person, but he knew he could never be close to someone like that again. So he adopted an admittedly self-destructive, but also rather fun way of coping. And while casual sex provided an outlet for his passions, leaving Delta Prime as a pilot on a cruise liner provided a new beginning away from painful memories. When the anomalies began, he actively sought out a way to help, petitioning the UGAP until they finally acquiesced and gave him a position as co-pilot on the Venia.
Side note: OOC-wise, don't get offended if he hits on your character. Male or female, he WILL. I guarantee it. If it makes you uncomfortable, just let me know. Don't take him seriously, either.
RP Sample: See Kiri Brooks.
Rules: Ha! What are these things you call rules?
