Name:Kiriann Emmeline Brooks
Nickname:Kiri
Gender:Female
Sexuality:Open minded
Age/Birthday:March 14th, 23 years old.
Race:Human
Place of Birth/Home Town:Harrisburg, PA, Earth
Character Portrayal:Ellen Page
Hair:Shoulder length brown hair, usually pulled back out of her face.
Eyes:Greyish brown
Height:About 5'3"
Individual Features:Nothing particularly distinguishing. No scars to speak of, and she doesn't even have her ears pierced.
General Appearance:
Family:Some extended family back on Earth, but no immediate family surviving.
Friends:None yet - hopefully the crew of the Venia.
Enemies:None yet.
Job:Medical Officer
Personality:Kiri is surprisingly mature for her age, with a calm, collected view of the world that startles many people. She is often underestimated due to her diminutive physical size, and has developed a sharp tongue and wit to make up for it. College and a mostly independent life have given her a stubborn, practical work ethic, including an almost obsessive tendency towards cleanliness.
Growing up without much parental influence has been a mixed blessing. Despite her very adult view of the world, she is, in some ways, still immature. She does not deal well with rejection, and has a tendency to go overboard when it comes to relaxation or "partying." However, she also developed more than her fair share of responsibility and dedication to her work, and an ability to cope with whatever challenges might be thrown her way. While she can be emotional and passionate, she rarely lets those emotions get in the way of doing what needs to be done.
Outside of a work environment, Kiri is very sociable and friendly. She loves nothing more than to spend time with a large group of friends and acquaintances, doing whatever comes to mind to amuse themselves. She has an innate fear of rejection that grew from a reputation as a "geek" or "nerd" in her early years of school. While the reputation faded, the fear never quite did. In order to overcome that fear, she tends to subconsciously surround herself with people she knows look up to her and like her.

History:
Kiri was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to parents both involved in the medical profession. Her father was the senior researcher for a prominent pharmaceutical company, and her mother was a nurse at a nearby hospital. That meant that neither were home much, and after the first few years of daycare Kiri essentially raised herself.
From middle school onward Kiri loved science, especially biology and biochemistry. She was in the science club at school, and spent her free time reading medical journals and learning as much as she could about the human body and health. She had a natural aptitude for learning, aided by a memory that bordered on photographic.
During her sophomore year of high school, her mother was diagnosed with cancer, which only served to increase her interest. A year later, her mother died, and her father followed soon after – a victim of a stress-induced heart attack. Kiri dealt with the trauma very well, due mostly to the fact that her parents had never played a large role in her life. As an indepent 18-year-old, she did the next thing that came naturally and enrolled in the local community college.
She spent two years taking basic classes, living for the days she could go out and party – and for the lab classes she crammed her schedule with. Once she received her Associate's Degree, she moved on to Harvard University in Boston, flying through the program, securing a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology, moving on to a dual masters in Immunology and Virology, specializing in a study of infectious diseases and their treatment and containment. Needless to say, she loved school, and thrived and flourished in that environment.
When she finally graduated, however, and the time came to join the real world, she found herself at a loss. While she had numerous job offers, none of them seemed to be what she wanted to do - not that she knew what that was. She eventually took a position at a pharmaceutical research company, like her father - and promptly decided she hated it. Fortunately, it was shortly after that that the anomalies began. A ferociously virulent strain of a disease no one on Earth had ever seen before hit Boston, hospitalizing hundred - although killing strangely few. Kiri was part of the team responsible for developing the antidote and vaccine - and it was largely thanks to her tireless hours of work studying the strange virus that they achieved their breakthrough.
Two weeks later, she was visited by two men in suits who asked if she'd like to join the crew of the Venia as a medical officer, assisting in the grand effort to discover what was causing the anomalies. Jumping at what was surely a once in a lifetime chance, Kiri eagerly agreed.

The Black Labrador Coffee House and Pub was not your average American coffee shop. For one, it's most commonly sold beverage was hot tea. The coffee it sold was black as night and bitter as sin, and if you wanted it fancy you made it yourself, from the array of flavored milks and syrups available for public use on one of the counters. The owners were British, as was the tea, and the atmosphere. But the selling point for Connor was simply that it didn't bear even the slightest passing resemblance to a Starbucks.
It was almost a 45 minute drive from his house, and fifteen minutes from work, but for a cup of fresh, hot, Earl Grey tea, it was worth it. Connor left the counter after paying for the aforementioned drink and stood for a moment, looking around for an empty table or booth, preferably secluded, where he could enjoy his drink and daily newspaper in peace.
He spotted one, back in the far corner, and headed towards it. Just as he'd taken the first few steps, however, he ran headlong into something - or rather, someone. The newspaper slipped from under his arm and his teacup escaped his careful grip, smashing on the floor and soaking the newspaper.
Jaw clenched in the effort not to do something exceedingly ungentlemanly, he slowly looked up at the culprit, a blonde woman who looked vaguely familiar.
