Mission 002 - Evacuations
You have been provided with small extinguishing packs fitted into a backpack for easy transport, but your main job is to see the trapped civilians to safety. Families and a school full of children are still trapped on the East side of the city. Split into two groups. One will go to the school, the other to the housing estate. Rendevous back at the safe spot near the Venia. ------------- Hollie was not looking forward to this at all. Without her sight, it was going to make it difficult to suss out where she was going in this foreign town - she'd never been there before - and there would be danger all around them at all times with the fire closing in. But the fact was, she probably had the best hearing and smell of everyone on board, she'd be able to hear people who were trapped from over half a mile away and pick out small sounds in the noise - also, she hadn't wanted to sit around on board feeling helpless, like usual.
She'd spent the journey to the planet committing the sound of everyone's voice to memory so she would know who was speaking to her; Ally and Penn were easy because of their accents, Ollie and Natalie would be fairly easy as well, as one was male and one female, and TEMP had a neutral sounding voice when she was activated. Hollie would need help, but she'd do as best she could, and try to stay out of the way as much as possible.
The group of them were all standing outside the ship, but no one seemed to be taking charge. They had to split up into two groups of three, but no one knew where they were supposed to be going. "I'm going with the group to the school," she told them, pulling her laser pen out of her pocket, "it'll be easier for me to locate any missing kids." There was a moment's pause then she said, "who's coming with me?"

To be honest, Penn had no idea what he was doing. He had a fire extinguisher strapped to his back, and instructions to go save people. For the umpteenth time, he thanked the government for being so specific, and turned to hear Hollie speak.
"I'll come," Penn volunteered. He had been a little worried they were going to have to draw straws, or else stand around doing nothing all day. Hollie seemed like a nice person, and besides, it was a school. He had spent most of his useful life sitting in them, it was only fitting he would go and try to save one.
He quickly checked his pockets for everything he had stuffed in them. Gauze, some salve, bandages, a mini first-aid kit. Check. He hoisted the pack up on his back, and walked out into the street, to try and get a better view.
He was a little ashamed to admit he enjoyed the smell that was wafting through the air. It was like a slow-burning campfire, the kind you roasted marshmallows over on a chilly night. He squinted, blinking to stop his eyes burning, and looked around. They had said the school was next to a park... So, that lone building that looked like it was standing in the middle of nothing seemed likely to be their target.
He turned to Hollie. "Did they give any directions to the school?" he asked. He'd been too busy trying to put together a kit to get more than a basic brief.

Just like everything else expected, this too happened all too fast. Alliana was recovering from her wretched flu, and still felt a little on edge, but she could function and her head was clear enough. With an event this big, they could use all the help they could get. Stepping up next to Hollie, whom she barely knew but shared coffee with that morning, she pulled a band from around her wrist and pulled her relentless curls into a tight ponytail. 'I'll go with you." she spoke up, making eye contact, even though their vision was never truly met.
Ally hadn't known Hollie that well, or that long for that matter, but she felt as if she oddly clicked with the blond. She had a calm spirit about her, that seemed to edge off everyone's nerves. She was a welcomed relief. Standing idly, Ally shrugged off her leather bomber and adjusted her v-neck. Her boots were tight, hair pulled back, and her adrenaline was beginning to pump through her veins. She was ready for this, eager almost. Playing Hero, wasn't something she usually did, well not lately. Last time she played that game, she got shot in the shoulder by a terrorist. She shrugged the thought off. What mattered now, was lives at stake, and the entire crew was about to be a hero today.

It seemed Hollie had the two other members of her group, Welsh Penn and Australian Ally, that made things a hell of a lot easier on her ears. And, she'd met both of them before as well, so she at least knew a little about the both of them. Nothing like running into the unknown with people unknown, that would have really set her at ease... yeah, right.
Penn asked whether they'd been given any directions and Hollie shook her head, "none that I remember anyhow," she said. It would have been pretty pointless someone using a map to show her where everything was anyway. She probably would have slapped them over the head and pointed in the general direction of her eyes before sighing and walking off, leaving them feeling thoroughly embarrassed. Most people seemed to deal with her lack of sight in two ways; they were either over cautious, which she hated, or they were ignorant, which she also hated - which is probably why she got annoyed easily.
Hollie listened for a moment, taking in a long breath. "The smell of the fire is strongest in that direction," she said, gesturing with her pen, "but I can hear children that way," she pointed just to the right of the strongest fire, "so let's go that way." She turned the pen on and headed in the direction she pointed, following her ears while casting the laser at the ground, making sure not to trip over the kerb as she went. That would have been embarrassing.

Penn was relieved to have Alliana on board, as well-- she was solid as a rock, and that would be good in a situation like this. The last thing they needed was to be panicking as they were trying to rescue panicking kids. This was going to be tough.
Hollie informed them of which way the children were sounding, and Penn nodded. He knew the basic idea of sense loss, and the degree that picked up in the others, but he had no idea it would be to such an extent. Well, every blessing did come with a curse. "Alright," Penn shrugged, hopping off the edge of the sidewalk.
As they got close to the school, the air thickened with smoke. Penn's eyes stung, so he squeezed them shut for a moment, then grabbed a square bandage out of his breast pocket to wrap about his face. He couldn't decide whether he felt more like a cowboy or a ninja. "Most schools have evacuation drills to get out of a building-- do you think maybe they're standing outside the building somewhere?" It was a plausible guess, and the teachers would probably have a head count as well, if the kids were small enough. It would make their job a lot easier.

Ally nodded at Hollie's idea. It seemed plausible, and tje more she thought about it, her ears were picking up the same cries for help. Penn was here as well, which would help. She hadn't talked to him a ton, but word got round that he was quite the epic fellow. All in all, she was confident with the small team they had. Hollie's lack of sight hindered her little, and Ally hardly worried for her. Penn would be the muscle if needed, and Ally? well, she would be wherever she would be needed.
As they made their way through the cloud of smoke, the screams were increasing in volume. It made her stomach swirl and tighten. She turned her head and sneezed a few times. Her flu was over, but her immune system was still trying to make amends with her atmospheres. After holding a hand to her nose, she turned and sneezed a final time. "Right then. let's go."she sniffled up, and made her way with her companions to try to find the best way to assist the problem.

Despite the fact that it had only been a few weeks, Natalie was finally at least mostly able to cope with the fact of her father's death. In fact, it was the first morning that she had managed to get out of bed with crying for a while first that they got called out for a mission on New Earth. Apparently a fire had broken out, and they needed some of the crew to help get people out of the way while the others tried to extinguish the flames.
It was decided fairly quickly upon their arrival that Hollie, Penn and Alliana were going to try and help the school. This left Natalie with Oliver and T.E.M.P., who she turned to once the others had left. "Well, since they've got the school covered, I guess we should check the houses in the area. Make sure that there's no-one still inside any of them. Sound like a plan?" she asked, not wanting to seem bossy or anything like.
((Sorry for the craptastic post, I just figured that T.E.M.P. probably wanted to get in here too, as did I))

The ride in the shuttlepod had been swift. It was clear that the captain had given the pilot clear instructions to get to the planet at great speed. T.E.M.P had waited patiently stood in the corner as the others conversed to the extent that was acceptable due to the nature of the mission. The hologram said nothing. She wasn't programmed to socialize and she had recently discovered that being online for so long a period required that she talked to others on matters other than their health.
When they landed they followed the group out of the shuttle and onto the street. She looked around and allowed her internal sensors to get to work. She picked up on some weak life signs rather quickly but before she could say anything, a few of them rushed off in the wrong direction, relying on their instincts. She turned to Natalie as she spoke.
"I read approximately fifteen weak life signs and three fatal, to the south. We will go this way." Despite the fact she was a not the commanding officer present she still took control and began a sprint in the right direction. Her avatar switched to that of an athletic build with strong legs as she moved. A male runner of sorts.

The Captain shifted on the balls of his feet, his hands behind his back while he peered at the screen in front of him. He stood on the Flight Deck of the Venia in silence while others worked around him. The screen he studied had a series of blinking lights upon them, each representing a life, each being a life of one of his crew members, and if he had anything to say about it they would all be returning to the ship safe and sound as quickly as possible.
He didn’t want any more disasters. Not like last time.
Touching the communication receiver on his ear her spoke, his tone, as always firm and directs. “I don’t want anyone alone while looking for civilians. Make sure you don’t drift from your group.” He watched as the group that volunteered to head in the direction of the school consisted of Hollie Sampson, his Computers Specialist, Penn Gwyther, one of the best Med officers he knew, and Alliana Porter a Science officer. His lips tugged downward as he waited for a moment before speaking again.
“Gwyther, I have Med Bay on stand by. If you feel it necessary I can send reinforcements to help transfer civilians that need medical attention.”
In another direction Natalie Fairholm moved along with a few others and he shifted on the balls of his feet again. She was pretty young to be moving out alone but he had to hold his tongue, knowing that anything he might say on the matter would most likely be pointless.
“T.E.M.P” He said suddenly, “I want constant monitoring of health levels at all times. I wont have anyone damaging their lungs because we weren’t on top of that.”
Looking closer, he leaned over the shoulder of the technician that surveyed the screens on a regular biases, careful not to actually touch them as he did so. The screen was showing him something odd.
“Sampson, Your team is getting close to signs of life…”

Hollie kept walking, moving more cautiously as she smelt and literally felt the smoke getting thicker around her. Penn piped up, and she responded, "maybe, if we're lucky," she said, "others might be trapped inside." Those would be harder to reach, but she was willing to put her hearing to the test and try to find them. After all, that's why she had volunteered to come along in the first place.
Ally was still with them, Hollie could hear her breathing. She was a little surprised when the Captain's voice sounded in her ear, she hadn't expected to hear anything on her comms so soon. "Okay, sir," she said, glad for the heads up. At least they were actually heading in the right direction.
The sounds of whimpering became more prominent, and Hollie felt her way around the corner, hearing several gasps as she appeared. "Don't worry kids, we're here to get you out of here," she said, holding up her hands, "come on, it's okay, let's get moving."

The hologram had barely given her order to the crew to head to the south when “T.E.M.P”
"Captain," the projection had no need to tap a combadge as she was directly a part of the computer. It was handy in times of need. Her eyes flickered with computerized files as she carried out the captain's commands. She located the individual away team members and began to taking tabs on their health. She noted an elevated heart beat in most of them. "Task in progress." She reported back.
With a speedy step she began moving to the south. She had barely left the vicinity of the shuttle when her avatar began to falter. She'd almost forgotten. She was a hologram and she was no longer on the ship. She wouldn't be able to go much further than a few metres away from the shuttle pod.
Her memory shifted back to the encounter with her future self. She imagined he never had any problems with getting around. She'd run into him again in Sickbay. He certainly knew his way around the place. The entire ship's blueprints were built into T.E.M.P but she didn't really know the place. He was bouncing around as if he knew where each medicinal compound, each tool and each syringe were.
She focused once more and ran back to the shuttle. Maybe there could be a way she could strengthen the holoprojectors and widen the array. She would be able to get further that way. She read weak life signs only a few blocks away.

Ally had fallen a little behind, but was close enough to catch what was going on. The smoke was thick and it burned her eyes. Why had she signed up for this again? She at least would keep the complaining to her mind. She looked over at T.E.M.P who flickered a little. That wasn't good. Guess they'd have to do it the old fashioned way. She heaved a heavy sigh, tripping accidentally on some debris. Good thing no one saw that.
"Hollie...' she choked through the dark fog. "What's up over there?" She was about to ask what she saw, but remembered that wouldn't be a smart thing to say. Ally pulled at her ponytail a little tighter and attempted to find her way. "How can I help?" Seemed the better question.
