For all the technology that came with the passing of the 21st century, there were still a few basic things engineers could count on. One being that nothing that moves moved solely on willpower and electronics. Something had to hold the bits together, mostly welding, nuts, bolts, careful and very messy procedures were what kept a ship like the Venia in top shape. One of the experts on how the large contraption worked was Silken Floss.
The dark skinned grease monkey knew her way around a power generator or a set of blaster cannons better than almost anyone, and she was always sure to keep up on their maintenance. She wore her long brown hair tied back for jobs like this one.
Wearing a pair of stained overalls and a white wife beater, she grunted while laying on her back under the open hatch inside the engineering room. One of the valves for matter transfer wasn’t working properly, a potentially leather problem should the Captain see fit to transfer any via the beaming system.
It had been Hollie that located the problem, and when computers couldn’t find a glitch it usually meant something physical.
Silk’s eyes narrowed as she carefully prodded through the wires, looking at each connection before moving on to the bigger tubes, pulling each bulb out and checking their readings before pushing them back into place. “There’s got to be something wrong here.” She muttered.
Oil from the hatch and bulbs got on her hands and as she wiped it across her forehead a smear of oil touched at her nose.

It had been two weeks, and Claire was still hopelessly lost. This ship was just too big and she hardly knew a face on board. Th cut guy Chance who she had chatted with a bit, and then Alliana whom she actually discussed literature with. A fellow gentle 'hellos' and small bits of conversation, but no one she could honestly trust or remember much about. Her job presented well...little work at all really. Sure a few tweaks, or an occasional demonstration, but her skills weren't exactly required just as of yet.
With a small, laden sigh, Claire wandered aimlessly through another corridor hallway, in desperate search for her room again. Was it this hall or that? This door, or the one three halls back? She heaved again and pushed open the door in front of her. "Shoot." she breathed, resting her forehead against the door she had just opened. wrong room again. This seemed to be a mechanical room of some sort. Definitely not her cup of tea. She was incredibly lost...again.

The last one Silk had difficulty getting out. She was prying at it when she heard the door open. Her head reaching out and over the hatch, feeling around for one of her tools.
"Hey, would ya mind handing me my pinchers?" Silk said to whoever it was. Her voice echoed in the cavity the upper portion of her body was in

A voice from the other side of the room, kept her from closing the door and exiting. "uhh..sure." she replied in her sooth British tongue. She leaned down and scrambled curiously to find what the woman had asked for. Well...that looked right. She reached under the piece of whatever it was and handed the woman the tool.
"Anything else I can get for ya mat?" she asked just out of friendly habit. It necer hurt to be nice, that's what she had always been taught, and lived for. Sure she was sheltered..well, really sheltered, but she faired on her own and stood like iron against her morals. She was pretty damn unshakeable and it took a lot to upset her.

"Hmm... just a second..." Silk said as she worked on the bulb. Finally it came loose and she held it out under the hatch. It was oozing some kind of strange oil. "Hold this please."
Silken narrowed her eyes at the place she'd just removed the bulb from. It was pretty clear someone had forced it in there, causing it to jam. Someone tampering with the equipment like that was either looking to cause trouble or very very stupid.
Climbing out from the hatch, Silken stood up straight and smiled at the mousy brunette girl and took the bulb back. "Thanks." After a second she realized who it was she was looking at.
"Heeeey! I know you!" She chimed and leaned back against the hatch she'd just been inside.

Claire folded her arms, watching as the woman pulled herself up. The woman was pretty, almost in an exotic seductive way. Not the kind of girl Claire would've hung around with in school. She gave a smile back, reading herself to shake her hand, but the woman had stopped to make her claim.
"Your welcome....." she replied, shifting on the balls of her feet as she pocketed her hands,. The woman didn't exactly look familiar, but then again she had seen and met a lot of people in her life. "You...uh..you do? Pardon my..uh....from..from where? I'm not sure if I remember you."
